Water that tastes unpleasant, smells strongly of chlorine, contains visible sediment, or leaves homeowners uncertain about its quality may benefit from a properly selected filtration system. The right equipment depends on what is present in the water, how much water the household uses, and whether treatment is needed throughout the home or only at a specific faucet.

Zippity Split provides professional water filtration system installation throughout Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, and nearby Valley communities. We evaluate your water concerns, explain the available treatment options, and install a filtration system matched to your home’s plumbing, flow requirements, and water-quality goals.

Whole-Home and Point-of-Use Water Filtration

Water filtration systems are generally installed in one of two ways.

A whole-home water filtration system is connected to the main water supply so water is filtered before reaching the home’s faucets, showers, water heater, appliances, and plumbing fixtures. This approach is useful when the concern affects water throughout the property.

A point-of-use filtration system treats water at a specific location, such as a kitchen sink or refrigerator connection. These systems are typically selected when the primary goal is improving water used for drinking and cooking.

The appropriate setup depends on:

  • The substances or conditions being addressed
  • Whether treatment is needed throughout the home
  • Household water consumption
  • Peak flow requirements
  • Available installation space
  • Filter capacity and replacement frequency
  • Existing water-treatment equipment
  • Desired maintenance level
  • Water pressure and pipe size

We help determine whether a whole-home system, point-of-use system, or combination of both provides the most practical solution.

Water Filtration System Installation

Installing a filtration system involves more than connecting a filter housing to a water line. The equipment must be sized for the property’s water demand and installed where it can treat the intended water supply without unnecessarily restricting pressure.

Our water filtration installation services may include:

  • Whole-home filtration systems
  • Sediment filtration
  • Activated-carbon filtration
  • Multi-stage filtration systems
  • Under-sink filtration
  • Drinking-water filtration
  • Filter housing installation
  • Shutoff and bypass valve installation
  • Cartridge and media replacement
  • Existing filtration system replacement
  • Filtration combined with water softening or conditioning

The final recommendation depends on the water concern and the type of treatment the selected media is designed to provide.

What Water Filtration Can Address

Different filter media target different water-quality concerns. No single filtration system removes every substance, which is why equipment should be selected based on the desired result rather than broad product claims.

A properly selected system may help address:

  • Chlorine taste or odor
  • Sediment, sand, or visible particles
  • Rust particles from aging plumbing
  • Cloudiness caused by suspended material
  • Unpleasant tastes or odors
  • Certain organic compounds
  • Contaminants targeted by the selected filter media
  • Debris that can collect in fixtures and appliances

Filtration performance varies by system. We explain what the proposed equipment is designed to reduce, what it does not address, and what maintenance it requires before installation.

Sediment Filtration

Sediment filters are designed to capture suspended particles before they move through the home’s plumbing and water-using equipment. Depending on the filter rating and media, they may collect sand, silt, rust particles, dirt, and other visible debris.

Sediment filtration may be useful when homeowners notice:

  • Particles in sinks, tubs, or toilet tanks
  • Cloudy water caused by suspended debris
  • Rust-colored material from aging pipes
  • Repeated clogging of faucet aerators
  • Sediment collecting in appliance screens
  • Premature clogging of other treatment filters

A sediment filter may also be installed ahead of another treatment system to help protect downstream equipment. It does not remove dissolved hardness minerals, chlorine, or every contaminant.

Activated-Carbon Filtration

Activated-carbon filtration is commonly used to improve taste and odor and reduce substances such as chlorine that can affect how household water smells or tastes.

Carbon filtration may be considered when the primary concerns include:

  • Noticeable chlorine taste or odor
  • Unpleasant drinking-water flavor
  • Odors affecting cooking or beverages
  • A desire to improve water at multiple fixtures
  • Protecting certain downstream treatment media

Carbon filters have a limited capacity and must be replaced or serviced according to water use and equipment requirements. Once the media is exhausted, treatment performance can decline even if water continues flowing normally.

Multi-Stage Water Filtration Systems

A multi-stage filtration system uses more than one type of filter or media to address multiple water concerns. For example, a system may use sediment filtration before activated carbon so particles are removed before water reaches the carbon media.

A multi-stage setup may include:

  • A sediment prefilter
  • Activated-carbon media
  • Specialized media for a verified concern
  • A final polishing filter
  • Point-of-use drinking-water treatment
  • Separate hardness treatment

Each treatment stage should have a defined purpose. Adding more filters does not automatically improve water quality and may create unnecessary maintenance or pressure loss if the system is poorly designed.

Our Water Filtration Installation Process

1. Review Your Water Concerns

We begin by discussing what you have noticed and what you want the system to accomplish. This may include taste, odor, sediment, discoloration, drinking-water quality, or concerns about protecting plumbing equipment.

We also ask whether the issue affects the entire home or only certain fixtures.

2. Evaluate the Water and Plumbing System

The plumber reviews the water source, existing treatment equipment, main-line location, pipe size, available installation space, water pressure, and household flow requirements.

When needed, water testing can help identify which treatment method is appropriate. Equipment should not be selected solely because a homeowner sees scale, spots, or discoloration, since those symptoms can have different causes.

3. Recommend the Filtration Method

We explain which filter media or system configuration is designed to address the identified concern. The recommendation may involve whole-home filtration, point-of-use filtration, or multiple treatment stages.

We also explain:

  • What the system is intended to reduce
  • What it will not remove
  • Expected filter life
  • Maintenance requirements
  • Replacement cartridge or media needs
  • Potential effects on water pressure

4. Select the Installation Location

Whole-home systems are generally installed near the point where the main water supply enters the property. The location must provide enough room for the filter housing, valves, plumbing connections, and future cartridge or media replacement.

Point-of-use systems are typically installed beneath a sink, inside a cabinet, or near the specific fixture being served.

5. Install the Filtration System

We shut off and drain the affected water line, modify the plumbing as needed, and install the filter equipment. Depending on the system, the installation may include a bypass, isolation valves, pressure gauges, mounting brackets, housings, tanks, or separate treatment stages.

The system is positioned so routine filter replacement can be completed without unnecessary plumbing modifications.

6. Flush and Test the Equipment

After installation, we flush the filter media according to the system requirements, inspect the plumbing connections, check for leaks, and confirm that water flows through the equipment correctly.

We also check for excessive pressure loss and verify that the bypass or isolation valves operate as intended.

7. Explain Maintenance Requirements

Before completing the appointment, we explain how often the filter should be checked or replaced, what changes may indicate exhausted media, and how to use the bypass when applicable.

Water Filtration vs. Water Softening

Water filtration and water softening address different water conditions.

A filtration system may reduce sediment, chlorine, odors, and other substances targeted by its specific media. A water softener or water conditioner is primarily used to address hardness minerals and scale behavior.

A standard sediment or carbon filter does not remove calcium and magnesium hardness. Likewise, a traditional water softener is not intended to remove every taste, odor, particle, or contaminant. When filtration and hardness treatment are installed together, the equipment order should be based on the water conditions and the requirements of each system.

Water Filtration System Replacement

An older filtration system may need replacement when it no longer treats water effectively, cannot support household flow, or requires components that are no longer available.

Replacement may be appropriate when:

  • Water taste or odor returns soon after filter changes
  • The system creates a persistent pressure drop
  • Housings, tanks, or valves are leaking
  • Filter cartridges are difficult to find
  • The equipment is undersized for the home
  • The existing system does not address the actual concern
  • Maintenance has become excessive
  • The filter housing or control head is damaged
  • Household water use has changed
  • A different treatment method is now needed

We inspect the existing setup and determine whether the problem can be corrected with new cartridges, valve service, plumbing adjustments, or full system replacement.

Filter Replacement and Maintenance

Every filtration system has a finite treatment capacity. Filters that are not replaced on time can become restricted, lose effectiveness, or reduce water pressure throughout the home.

Maintenance needs depend on:

  • Filter type and micron rating
  • Water quality
  • Household consumption
  • Equipment capacity
  • Sediment levels
  • Manufacturer requirements
  • Whether the system includes multiple stages

Signs a filter may need service include:

  • Lower water pressure
  • Reduced flow at several fixtures
  • Returning taste or odor
  • Visible discoloration
  • A pressure difference across the system
  • Filter-change indicators
  • A cartridge that has reached its recommended service interval

Filter replacement schedules should be based on the system and actual use rather than a single interval applied to every home.

Water Pressure and Filtration System Sizing

A filtration system must be capable of handling the home’s peak water demand. Equipment that is undersized, overly restrictive, or clogged can reduce flow when multiple fixtures operate at the same time.

Proper sizing considers:

  • Main water-line size
  • Number of occupants
  • Number of bathrooms
  • High-flow fixtures
  • Simultaneous water use
  • Filter media and housing capacity
  • Expected contaminant or sediment load
  • Acceptable pressure loss

We select equipment that can provide the intended treatment while supporting normal household use.

Water Filtration for Phoenix-Area Homes

Phoenix-area homeowners may seek filtration for chlorine taste or odor, sediment, aging plumbing debris, drinking-water preferences, or a desire for treatment throughout the home. The right system depends on the specific concern and the property’s plumbing configuration.

Zippity Split provides water filtration installation in Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Ahwatukee, and nearby Valley communities.

We evaluate the actual water concern before recommending equipment so filtration is not confused with water softener installation, water-line repair, or another plumbing service.

Brita PRO Water Filtration Systems Installed by Zippity Split

Zippity Split is proud to partner with Brita PRO to provide professionally selected and installed water filtration solutions for Phoenix-area homes. Brita PRO offers both whole-home equipment and point-of-use drinking-water systems, allowing us to recommend a system based on what is present in your water, where treatment is needed, and how much water your household uses.

Available Brita PRO solutions may include:

  • NRV catalytic carbon filtration: This non-regenerating whole-home system is designed to significantly reduce chlorine, chloramine, and associated tastes and odors. It operates without salt, electricity, or regeneration cycles, making it a low-maintenance option for qualifying homes.
  • Backwashing catalytic carbon filtration: Designed for whole-home treatment, this system significantly reduces chlorine, chloramine, and objectionable tastes and odors. Automatic backwashing helps maintain consistent performance and extend the usable life of the filtration media.
  • Whole-home particulate filtration: Captures sediment and suspended particles before they reach faucets, fixtures, water heaters, and other water-using equipment.
  • Reverse osmosis drinking-water systems: Brita PRO offers three-stage, four-stage quick-change, and tankless systems for water used for drinking, cooking, beverages, and ice.
  • Tankless reverse osmosis: This compact system combines carbon and reverse osmosis treatment with smart TDS monitoring, filter-life indicators, leak detection, automatic flushing, and an automatic water shutoff for cleaner filter changes.
  • Aeration filtration: For water with confirmed hydrogen sulfide, iron, or manganese concerns, Brita PRO aeration equipment can help reduce rotten-egg odors, staining, sediment, and related water-quality problems.
  • Specialty filtration: Treatment options may also be available for verified nitrate or PFAS concerns. These systems require appropriate water testing and careful sizing before installation.

Select Brita PRO filters also incorporate EPA-registered antimicrobial technology into certain filter components and media. This feature is designed to help control microbial growth within the equipment that could otherwise contribute to staining, odors, reduced flow, or shortened filter life. It protects the filtration system itself and is not a substitute for water disinfection.

Zippity Split evaluates the home’s water concerns, plumbing configuration, available installation space, and peak flow requirements before recommending Brita PRO equipment. We will explain what the proposed system is designed to reduce, its maintenance needs, and whether whole-home filtration, reverse osmosis, or a combination of treatments is the most practical choice.

I hired Zippity Split to help me unclog a very clogged kitchen sink. The experience was everything you hope a service experience like this will be; they gave a two hour time window and arrived at the very start of the window, you receive a text when they are on the way and can track arrival in real time, the technician (Brett) was very knowledgeable and personable and completed the task quickly (but not at the expense of quality workmanship). He also gave me some helpful tips for the future and recommended some additional work that should be taken care of in the future, but was not at all pushy about it. It never felt like a sales pitch and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of during a time of misfortune (which is the norm with home repairs). Brett presented the best and worst case scenarios from the beginning and kept me informed along the way. I really took a risk in hiring a company without a recommendation from someone I know personally and I'm so glad that I did! The only negative I can share, if I had to be nitpicky, is that I asked for a quote for the other recommended repairs and haven't received it yet.

I have had to call on Zippity Split again for a problem with front yard hose bib which needed to be replaced and pressure valve added. They have done other plumbing issues in the past…fixed front main water valve, leak in main water line to house and most recently clogged toilet and laundry/kitchen drain. The guys that have come out have been great! Very professional and let you know what they need to do and why. Clean up afterwards and explain what they did. Definitely a 5 star company. Don’t hesitate to contact them, you won’t be disappointed.

An elderly member of our church had a pipe leaking from under his home, in a very small crawl space. Luckily, he managed to shut the water off quickly, but when he called his normal plumber (under extended contract) they told him it would be over a week before they could respond. He was stuck with no water in Phoenix summer temps, and his plumber was no help. Our church member, frustrated, called several of us for help. I knew Zippity Split from using them previously, so I called. James was there in about 30 minutes, found the leak, and said one of his co-workers, Sam, would be out to repair it soon. Sam showed up one hour earlier than projected, and had the repair in place with a 2-year warranty, for exactly James' quoted price. The water was back on in time for an early dinner. This was not an "easy" repair. The crawl space James and Sam worked in was about 2-3' high and had pipes that looked like spaghetti everywhere. The outside temperature was around 109 deg. From their customer service desk, to the techs--five stars are not enough! This is hands down, the best plumbing and A/C company I've ever known, and I've lived all over the country in the military. The only problem is because some of us in our church agreed to pay our dear member's bill, I could not figure out how to get this post under my own name, and not our church secretary's name. There is a reason Zippity Split has over 830 five stars, and nothing less. Need I say more?
Sincerely, M Koch, Administrator, Southeast Valley Bible Church

Excellent, job extremely well done by Jesus and Levi, and Jeremy for walking through the process. I would use them over and over again. Very professional, the kind you dont see very much of these days. I had my cast iron sewer pipe lined with the trenchless sleeve, the peace of mind is worth it. Any house over 50 years old needs to seriously consider this investment.

We recently had our 1950’s home cast iron pipes replaced. Zippity Split Plumbing was our second opinion and after hearing the tech that did the camera inspection we knew immediately they knew what they were doing. The work was done by Mikey and his team who where always punctual and professional. It was a huge job that was done efficiently. They did everything possible to disrupt us as little as possible, explained the process and communicated all findings immediately giving us the available options. Highly satisfied costumers.

My 1948 house had one last stretch (about 25') of original cast iron pipe from our kitchen drain that hadn't been replaced. Austin and Levi did the trenchless pipe relining to avoid digging up our tile and hardwood floor. They were very professional, knowledgeable, and kept things as clean as possible considering the pipe access was in a block wall. They were kind to explain each step of the process as they went even though I felt like I asked too many questions! We were very pleased with the end result - it's a huge relief that we don't have to worry about it possibly failing anymore plus the 25 year warranty. Would definitely recommend Zippity Split for this service. Exceptionally good price compared to other quotes. Thank you!
